Change the light bulbs, change the laws

If you've heard of Al Gore, you may know him as the man who won the 2000 US presidential election before it was stolen by George Bush and his cronies. Or the man who brought us the now infamous 'An Inconvenient Truth' and who these days uses his considerable wealth and influence to invest in clean, renewable energy and drive the change needed to bring about a response to the enormous environmental challenges facing the planet. He is incidentally also on the board of directors at Apple.

If you haven't seen An Inconvenient Truth, go watch it. Some of the information in it is a little out of date now, in fact some of it was a little out of date when it was made, but the new information only adds to the case being presented.

Gore is frequently targeted and rubbished by the greenhouse mafia and their spokespeople, using the usual tricks to try to undermine someone's character. Even people who don't know much about the issues tend to find reasons to discount what he says. And yet what he says can not only be easily verified and the myths debunked, but it also clearly comes from the heart. The only reason I can think of to discount what he says besides political agenda is plain fear. Fear of what he represents. Fear of life itself and being found wanting. But hey, I can't imagine anyone like that reading this blog.

Recently, Al Gore set up the Alliance for Climate Protection and is now giving a new talk. Call it a follow-up to An Inconvenient Truth if you will. Among other things he talks about the Australian ratification of Kyoto. If you care about the environment, spend 20 minutes and watch it. If you care about raising consciousness, watch it. In fact, if you care at all about the world you live in, I highly recommend you watch it. Here it is:
